David Sletten

SPICER

David P. Sletten, age 65, of rural Spicer, died Saturday morning, July 15th, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following a several years battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 19th, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Steinbiesser officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lu of Spicer, two daughters, Melinda (and Ken) Mrnak of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Susan (and Tom) Payne of Plymouth and one grandson, Cody Payne of Plymouth. Also surviving are two brothers, Darryl (and Myrna) Sletten of Charles City, Iowa, Douglas (and Deloris) Sletten of Rapid City, South Dakota, a sister, Pat Malvin of Willmar, special friends, Arden and Sue Trandahl besides other relatives and friends.
David Peter Sletten was born on April 4, 1941, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Sylvia (Halsey) and Kenneth Sletten. He grew up in this city, was baptized and confirmed at the St. Mary's Catholic Church and graduated from the Willmar High School. On April 14, 1962, in Willmar, he was married to Mary Lu Olson. They resided in Minneapolis and Willmar where he was employed as a carpenter. For sixteen years he was a partner with his brother, Douglas owning and operating a family business in the food and beverage industry in Rapid City. Ill health force his retirement about five years ago. They then moved to the Spicer community. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, bird watching, watching the Minnesota Vikings football team and especially spending time with his family.
