DeAlton Rime, age 89, of Willmar, died peacefully Saturday morning, October 5, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 12, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Spicer American Legion Post #545. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Carris Health Rice Hospice in Willmar. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
DeAlton Norman Rime was born to Gilbert and Marit (Eliason) Rime on March 25, 1930 in Norway Lake Township. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1948. He served in the US Army, and after his honorable discharge returned to Willmar. He began his career working at Kandiyohi County Highway Department, where he retired as Assistant County Engineer after 41 years. On July 9, 1955, he married Donna Bernhagen in Bird Island, MN. In 1962, he built their home in Willmar where they lived from then on.
Carpentry came natural to De and he enjoyed working in his shop and completed many projects for his children. He also enjoyed deer hunting, and as a member of the Timberline Deer Hunting Club, he spent numerous seasons at their Side Lake hunting cabin. He also loved his golf and was a longtime member of a golfing group known as the "Geezers", enjoying many outings to courses around the state. As a young man he enjoyed downhill and water skiing, basketball and track. He also loved to dance, especially with his life-long love! De spent many seasons as a hockey coach in Willmar and served as president of the Willmar Hockey Association. He was a member and served as Adjutant of the Spicer American Legion Post 545. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Willmar Golf Course and on the Willmar Hospice Advisory Board. In retirement he loved to watch all of his grandchildren in their many athletic and other activities.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Tom and Patty Rime of Baxter; and daughter, Ann and Ted Kluender of Eagan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul Rime, Patrick Rime, Elizabeth Rime, Gus Kluender, Grace Kluender, Jocelyn Rafferty (Andy) and Ryan Rafferty (Alexis); and a great-grandson, Kenzo Rafferty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald Rime and Lester “Swen” (and Marion) Rime.
