Dean Roger Matson, age 55, of Willmar and formerly of the Blomkest and Svea area, died Monday afternoon, Jan 22, at Rice Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Svea Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Lynum. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Dean was born on September 1, 1951, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Roger and Beatrice (Swenson) Matson. He grew up in the Svea community, was baptized and confirmed at Svea Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School in 1969. He then attended the Willmar Vo-Tech College and graduated from the Auto Mechanica program in 1971. Dean worked for a short time at the Blomkest Body Shop and returned to work on the family farm. In 2003, due to his declining health, Dean entered the Rice Care Center.
He is survived by one sister, Debra (and Jerry) Negen of Blomkest, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Diane Matson.
