Dean H. Rudningen, age 71, of New London, died at his winter home on Wednesday, December 4, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Interment will be at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Sunburg. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at Hope Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Dean Harvey Rudningen was born on November 20, 1948, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of DeLoyd and Audrey (Lunder) Rudningen. He grew up in the Sunburg area, graduated from Brooten High School in 1966 and worked on the family farm. On February 6, 1973, Dean was united in marriage to Karen Elizabeth Weniger. They made their home in the Sunburg community where he worked for many years as a salesman for Sunco Feed Company in Sunburg and Big Valley Milling in Montevideo, retiring in 2015. He was a life member of West Norway Lake Lutheran Church and Hope Lutheran Church and served as a usher and cemetery board member. He was president of the Sunburg Trolls Car Club and was active with the Cattleman's Association. Dean enjoyed hunting, visiting with people, summers at the cabin on Norway Lake, collecting muscle cars, traveling and spending his winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Rudningen of Willmar; one son, Scott (and Tammy) Rudningen of Sunburg; one brother, Lyle (and Janelle) Rudningen of Clearwater; two sisters, LuAnn Rudningen (and Val Roberts) of Kandiyohi and Donna (and Larry) Miller of Spicer; and his special friend, Beth Feller of Granite Falls, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Karen in 2010.
