Delbert V. Stewart, age 92, of New London, died Wednesday morning, September 6, at Bethesda Grand Senior Living in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 11, at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #537 of New London. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
Delbert Virgil Stewart was born on April 7, 1925, in Vienna, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Lina (Threet) Stewart. He grew up and received his education in Vienna. In 1943, Delbert enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during WW II. In 1963, Delbert was married to Rose Hayes and they made their home in Circle Pines. In 1967, They moved to Hawick and purchased the Holiday Resort on Long Lake which they owned and operated for almost 20 years. In 1991, they were divorced and later was married to LaVonne Anderson. They lived in Pine Island and Dodge Center. Following LaVonne's death in 2016, Delbert moved into Glen Oaks in New London and then to Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Delbert's hobbies included hunting, fishing, bird watching and gardening.
He is survived by five children, Dennis (and Darlene) Stewart of Hawick, Debbie Barnes of Rapid City, SD., Diane (and Gayland) Rooney of New London, Billy (and Jill) Stewart of Spicer and Cheryl Uthe of Salinas, CA.; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers and six sisters.
