Delmar Jerome Buer, age 81, of Atwater, died Friday morning, October 19, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. October 21, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater with Rev. Grant O. Fischer officiating. Arrangements are with the Atwater Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Delmar Jerome Buer was born September 11, 1926, on the family farm in rural Atwater, the son of Helge J. and Carrie (Tiller) Buer. He grew up in the rural Atwater area, attended rural school and graduated from Atwater High School. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Delmar joined the Air Force in 1944 and served in WW II. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to the Atwater area. On June 24, 1950, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he was married to Norma Jean Hovey. They made their home in California for a time and then moved to Illinois, Iowa and in about 1972 returned to the Atwater area. Delmar had his own business doing grain bin construction on farms and helped on the farm with his nephew, Mike Buer. Delmar moved to the Rice Care Center in Willmar in July of this year. He was a life member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member of the Willmar American Legion.
He is survived by three sons, Jeffrey (and Wanda) Buer of Anita, Iowa, Gerald (and Kris) Buer of Atwater and Scott Buer of Atwater; three daughters, Jennifer Thompson (and Ken Kampson) of Belgrade, Ann (and Steve) Olson of Alexandria and Joan (and John) Larson of Atwater; fifteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Martin (and Nettie) Buer of Atwater; three sisters, Darlene (and Lloyd) Hovey of Atwater, Doris Knutson of Richfield and Martha Olson of Worthington; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma in 1998; two daughters, Jacqueline Buer in 1965 and Marlene Richard in 2005; a grandson, Michael Richard in 1972; and eight siblings.
