Donald P. "Donnie-O" Oeffling, age 62, of Atwater, died Sunday evening, July 24th, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 30th, at Church of St. Patrick in Kandiyohi. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home.
Donald Paul "Donnie-O" was born on December 30, 1948, in Wayzata, Minnesota, the son of Rose (Klonne) and Peter Oeffling. He grew up in Hamel and graduated from Rockford High School in 1966. From 1968 to 1970, he served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam. In 1972, Donnie-O moved to Atwater where he became engaged to Kathy Larson, but they never married. He was employed in Atwater at Midwest Locomotive, Phillips 66 service station and as a caretaker of the Atwater museum. Donnie-O was a member of the Church of St. Patrick and the Atwater American Legion Post. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Atwater and enjoyed trains and cars.
He is survived by two brothers; Dennis (and Karen) Oeffling of St. Michael and John Oeffling of Watertown and four sisters; Marie (and Henry) Dubay of Maple Plain, Lorraine (and Ronald) Hartneck of Delano, Margie Dalbec of St. Bonifacius and Carolyn Anderson of Delano.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
