Donavon Baker

Donavon G. Baker, 76, of Spicer, died Thursday morning, August 5, at his home in Spicer following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Military Honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, August 8, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Donavon "Don" Gene Baker was born January 12, 1934, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Leo and Alice (Nelson) Baker. He grew up and received his education in Willmar. On April 5, 1957, Don was united in marriage to Janice Dragt and they made their home in the Willmar community. He was employed at Roth Chevrolet for 20 years as parts manager and salesman. In 1981, Don and Vern Manley became business partners with used car sales. In 1983, they became owners of Don & Vern's Ford Dealership in Willmar. In 1991, he became a co-owner of the Quality Power and Yamaha - Suzuki of Willmar. Recently, Don and his son, Kim own and operated Quality Auto Sales in Willmar.

Don was an active member of the Assembly of God Church. He was an avid collector of many things. Don was a people person and cherished the many friendships made throughout the years. He also enjoyed the special times with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jan of Spicer; two children, Kim (and Debbie) Baker of Willmar and Jodi Kitzmann (and special friend, Rick Serbus) of Willmar; six grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew and Jason Kitzmann, Jenna (and Pastor Erick) Ortenblad, Jaden (and Ashley) Baker and Landon Baker and two great-grandchildren, Lilia Ortenblad and Leedon Baker. Also surviving is one brother, Michael (and Kathy) Baker of Spicer and a sister-in-law, Pat Baker of Spicer, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean Baker in August of 2009.
