Donna Mae Gerdes, 72, of Pennock, died Thursday evening, September 9, at her home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, September 13, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donna was born September 13, 1937, in Wheaton, Minnesota, the daughter of Edwin and Alta (Bruns) Berneking. She grew up and received her education in the Wheaton community. She was married to Vernon W. Nelson in Wheaton and they made their home in Pennock, where Donna was employed by PALS. Vernon died in 1976. Donna was married to Arthur Gerdes on March 28, 1986 in Sisseton, South Dakota. Donna and Art continued to live in Pennock and worked as escort driver moving mobile home across the U.S. They retired in 2000.
Donna was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. She enjoyed reading, baking, playing Bingo and watching sports on TV.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur; two sons, Dean (and Phyllis) Nelson of Willbrook, IL and Evert (and Sharon) Nelson of Aberdeen, SD; a daughter, Karen (and James) Smith of Litchfield; a stepdaughter, Sandra (and LeRoy) Christensen of Atwater; 4 stepsons; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Daryl Berneking of Breckenridge; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Vernon Nelson in 1976; and a stillborn grandson.
