Donna R. Wersal, age 80, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, December 9, at her home in Atwater.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 12, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector. Burial will be in the Hector City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with the Atwater Funeral Home.
Donna was born on January 4, 1928, near Avon, Minnesota, the daughter of Albinus and Margaret (Meyer) Bohmer. She grew up and received her education in the Avon community, graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School and received her teacher's training at Mankato State University. Donna began teaching in a country school North of Cosmos and then in Lake Lillian for many years. On June 11, 1955, she was married to Ivan Wersal. They lived and farmed in the Hector/Bird Island community. Donna was employed as a homemaker and later worked at Fingerhut in Bird Island and then for 18 years at 3M in Hutchinson, retiring in 1988. Donna was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and was active in various church womens groups and her neighborhood extension club. She and Ivan spent many winters in Arizona and enjoyed traveling throughout the world. She also enjoyed playing card games, reading, baking and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan of Atwater; five children, Deborah (and Steven) Ulrich of Hutchinson, Daniel Wersal of Richfield, Glenn (and Catherine) Wersal of Bird Island and Roger (and Laurie) Wersal of Hutchinson and Sandra Wersal of Elk River; seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Also surviving are four sisters, Pearl Kiesser of Winsted, Veronica O'Connell of St. Paul, Tenny (and Leonard) Raschke of Woodbury and Loni Katzner of Albany, besides other relatives and friends,
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Michelle; one brother, Wilfred "Butch" and three sisters, Marie, Vinnie and Connie.
