Doris A. Johnson, age 95, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, July 6, at the Rice Therapy Suites in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 10, at the First Baptist Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Doris Adeline Johnson was born on August 6, 1918, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Hattie (Johnson) Elkjer. She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1936. After graduating from nursing in Rochester, Minnesota, she was employed at Rice Memorial Hospital for 4 years during W.W. II. On September 30, 1944, Doris was united in marriage to Mauritz LeRoy Johnson. They lived and farmed in the Svea community for over 38 years and Doris enjoyed being a stay at home mom. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Willmar and participated in many women's ministry activities throughout her life.
As a devout woman, Doris lovingly nurtured the seeds that she planted. To all who met her, Doris was recognized as a gentle sweet lady with welcoming smiles and innocent infectious giggles. Doris' family meant everything to her. She treasured the time together with them. Doris cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren of which they all affectionately called her GG. Doris was a superb cook and baker. She took pleasure in preparing her family's favorite meals. Her guests appreciated her delicious spreads, especially her desserts. Doris had a gift of playing music by ear. She enjoyed singing and playing hymns on the piano. She also was an avid sports fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
She is survived by her three children, Gregg Johnson, Scott Johnson (special friend, Linnet), and La Nae Johnson, all of Willmar; five grandchildren, Tammy Olson of Spicer, Shannon (Shawn) Bohlsen) of Willmar, Shane (Linnae) Johnson of Mankato, Lindsey (Damon) Sweep of Kensington, and Amy Johnson of Rochester; and twelve great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mauritz in 1986; three brothers, Harold, Lloyd and Winton; and one sister, LaVonne. Blessed be her memory!
