Doris Akre

December 27, 1924 — August 23, 2012

Doris M. Akre, age 87, of Willmar, died Thursday morning, August 23, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, August 27, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. (www.petersonbrothers.com)

Doris Marion (Peterson) Akre was born on December 27, 1924, on the family farm near Willmar, the daughter of Borghild (Hendrickson) and Lawrence Peterson. She grew up in this area and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Calvary Lutheran Church where she has been a life long member. She received her education at District 18 rural school. Following her education, she worked as a housekeeper for several families in Willmar. On May 26th, 1942, she was married to Clarence Adolph Akre at Calvary Lutheran Church. Clarence was serving in the US Army during WW II and returned to complete his time in service. After his discharge they farmed for many years, south of Willmar and later west of New London. Doris was a hard worker, she helped on the farm, gardened and looked after the house and their daughter, Carole Jean. Later Doris worked for 25 years at Jennie-O as a line person. Doris was a devout Christian and can be described as Sweet, Kind and Compassionate.

She is survived by one daughter, Carole Jean (and Lawren) Mead of Spicer, four grandchildren; Jerry, Becky, Shelly and Kris, eight great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Ruth (and Richard) Palmquist of New London, sisters-in-law; Gladys (and Oscar) Mattson of Willmar and Marie (and Elrue) Dunsmore of Waite Park, besides other relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Clarence in 1979), two brothers (Ernie and Robert Peterson) and two sisters (Ethel Peterson and Florence and Earl Nordby and two twin great grandson (Joshua and Darrin Peterson) who died in infancy.
