Doris Johnson

Doris I. Johnson, age 89, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, Dec. 16, at the Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 1:00 P.M. at the Calvary Lutheran Church Chapel in Willmar with Rev. Timothy Larson officiating. Private interment will be in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Memorials to the Bethesda Heritage Nursing Home are preferred.
She is survived by her husband, G. Bernard "Barney" Johnson of Willmar; two sons, Stephen (and Sally) Johnson of Grand Rapids, Michael (and Patricia) Johnson of Spicer; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Donald Peterson of Montevideo.
Doris Johnson was born on December 12, 1918, in Montevideo, the daughter of Ella (Anderson) and Elmer L. Peterson. She grew up in the rural Montevideo community, graduated from the Montevideo High School as the valedictorian of her class and attended teachers training. She taught school for five years north of Pennock. On May 29, 1941, she was married to G. Bernard Johnson at the Strombeck Lutheran Church near Montevideo. They moved to Willmar where she was employed for several years at the Sears Roebuck Co. and later at the Lundquist Plumbing & Heating Co. retiring in 1981. Following ten years of traveling they moved to Spicer and later to Willmar. She was active in various church activities especially the Sunday school, the PTA and in square dancing groups. She was preceded in death by her parents.
