Doris R. McClain, age 92, of Willmar, died Wednesday, April 7, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at First Baptist Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the Lake Elizabeth Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Baptist General Conference Missions or the Lake Elizabeth Cemetery Association.
Doris was born August 5, 1917 to Levi F. and Ruth E. (Olson) Ekbom in Lake Elizabeth Township. She grew up in the rural Atwater community and attended District 79 rural school. She received Christ as her Savior at age eleven and was baptized in the Lake Elizabeth Baptist Church.
On September 21, 1940, she married Wilson L. McClain of Atwater. They lived in Olivia, in rural Kandiyohi and on Eagle Lake before moving to WestView Village Apartments in Willmar in 1992.
Doris worked at a corn canning plant, a grocery store in Kandiyohi, the Skelly Oil Station in Olivia and at Molenaar, Inc. in Willmar. She and Wilson owned a popcorn wagon for ten years, traveling to county fairs, including Kandiyohi County.
Doris was active in the Lake Elizabeth and Atwater Baptist Churches with missions, as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and by serving on various committees. She became a member of First Baptist in Willmar in 1993.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (and Jane) McClain of Crystal, MN and Marlyn (and Joan) McClain of Clear Lake, MN; three grandchildren, Jeff (and Jill) Kyong-McClain of Little Rock, AR, Joy McClain (and Donato Bastian) of Minneapolis, MN and Katie McClain of Clear Lake, MN; four great-grandchildren, Akiko & Owen Kyong McClain and Citlali & Guille Bastian McClain; a sister-in-law,Eleanor Ekbom of Shoreview, MN; a niece and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilson in May 1998; an infant son, Dean Ritchie in 1955 and a brother, Lowell Ekbom in October 1999.
