Doris E. Thompson, age 89 of Atwater, died Sunday evening, September 17, at the Brookdale Senior Living Center in Willmar.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Atwater Area Help for Seniors Program are preferred. Doris Elaine Thompson was born on July 15, 1928, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Fritz and Hazel (Ferguson) Kragenbring. She grew up on a farm North of Atwater and graduated from Atwater High School in 1946. On |December 16, 1949, Doris was united in marriage to Roger C. Thompson and they made their home in Svea. In 1956, they moved to Blomkest and in 1970, they moved to Atwater. Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Atwater American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included bowling, gardening, crossword puzzles, sewing, embroidery and cross-stitch needlework. She also enjoyed traveling, especially with her special friend, Clara Johnson.
She is survived by two children, Connie Halvorson of Atwater and Kelly Thompson of Atwater; two grandchildren, Joshua (and Paula Ulicsni) Halvorson of Atwater and Jessica Halvorson of Atwater. Also surviving are three brothers, Lee (and Gloria) Kragenbring of Cave Creek, AZ., Floyd (and Betty Lou) Kragenbring of Atwater and Lloyd (and Vicki) Kragenbring of Chippewa Falls, WI.; one sister, Karen (and Russ) Anderson of Willmar and a sister-in-law, Marty Kragenbring of Atwater, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger in 1987; one son, Curtis in 1981; her son-in-law, James in 2014; three brothers, Jerome, Donald and Dale and two nephews, Colin Kragenbring and Brady Kragenbring.
