The youngest of two daughters, Dorothy was born March 10, 1935 to Vernon and Alpha (Engwall) Kragenbring. She was a proud Alumni, class of '53, of Atwater High School. While working for Hedlund drug in Willmar, she met a handsome railroad man, Al Borgrud from Evansville, MN. They were married on September 26, 1959. Though they spent many weekends enjoying their small farm in Evansville, they raised three daughters, Mary, Jean and Gail and made their home in Atwater. A very giving person, Dorothy was nominated as Atwater's Good Neighbor. She was an active volunteer her entire life in numerous capacities within her community. Dorothy loved gardening, her pets, her Swedish heritage and sports, whether it was teams representing MN or local teams she was an avid fan. She was on the Atwater Baseball Association board of Directors. As a lifetime member of Harrison Presbyterian Church, she was a former Bible School and Sunday School teacher; an officer in the women's organization and a trustee. Deeply involved and supportive of her grandchildren, she loved to spend time with them, to bake for them and to teach them to fish.
Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Mary (and Kurt) Krenik of Billings, MT., Jean (and David) Ahl of Atwater and Gail (and Steven) Gregoire of Cottonwood; ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin in 1991; and one sister, Leone Fredrick in 2015.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Nicklawsky & staff at ACMC, the caring staff at Fieldcrest Assisted Living and the compassionate staff at Granite Falls Hospital. At Harrison, we also thank, Pastor Kathy, Organist Cheryl and the women of Harrison for her Celebration Service and Reception.
