Dorothy Gronli

Dorothy I. Gronli, age 86, of New London and formerly of Spicer, died Friday morning, Jan. 17, at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. www.petersonbrothers.com

Dorothy Irene Gronli was born on December 12, 1927, in Staples, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Gewerth) Duschner. She grew up in the New London-Spicer community, graduated from New London High School in 1945 and attended business school in St. Paul. On August 28, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Arnold Gronli. They lived in St. Paul for a short time before moving to Spicer. Dorothy was employed as an accountant by Alvin Ness at the Farmers State Bank in New London and H & R Block tax service in Willmar. She and Sue Dahlman also owned and operated a tax service in Willmar. Dorothy was later employed as a bookkeeper for Gronli Construction, the Little Crow Country Club and Faith Lutheran Church.

Dorothy was a life member of Faith Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included, golfing, fishing, knitting, quilting, playing card games and spending time with her grandchildren. In 2010, she entered the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

She is survived by two sons, Doug (and Arlys) Gronli of Spicer and Don (and Kari) Gronli of Fergus Falls; seven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold in 2000; one daughter, Sharon Bowen; son-in-law, Gerald Bowen; one grandson, Barry; five sisters; and three brothers.
