Dorothy M. Gunter, age 89, of Willmar, MN and formerly of Raymond, died Saturday morning, February 26, at Rice Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, MN.
Dorothy Margaret Gunter was born on July 13, 1921, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Julia (Burns) Strootman. She grew up on a farm near Raymond and graduated from Raymond High School in 1939. On September 24, 1941, Dorothy was married to C.L. "Shorty" Gunter and they made their home in Raymond. Dorothy was a homemaker, raising their four children. She was also a bookkeeper of the family business, C.L. Gunter & Sons Grain Elevators located in Raymond, Priam and New London. Dorothy was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raymond where she taught religious education for many years. She loved her family, flowers, birds and crossword puzzles. Dorothy died as she lived, with grace and dignity, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her four children, Renee (and Richard) Ehlenz of Sauk Rapids, Mike (and Carol) Gunter of Moorhead, Patrick (and Ann) Gunter of Willmar and Tim (and Dawn) Gunter of Wailuku, Hawaii; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren (soon to be eleven). Also surviving is one sister, Shirley (and Alvin) Kamstra of Beardsley; numerous nieces and nephews, besides many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Shorty in 1990; and two brothers, Robert and Wilbur.
