Dorothy Peterson

WILLMAR

Dorothy M. Peterson, age 92, of Willmar, died Thursday morning, August 31, at the Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2 P.M. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. George Brecheisen officating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Friday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorothy Mildred Peterson was born on February 2, 1914, in Washburn, Wisconsin, the daughter of Rhoda (Thorson) and Arthur Fossum. She grew up in the Washburn community and graduated from the Ondossagon High School. She graduated from the St. Lukes School of Nursing in Duluth as a registered nurse. In 1937, she moved to Willmar where she was employed as an anesthetist at Rice Memorial Hospital. On January 1, 1940, in Washburn, Wisconsin, she was married to Richard A. Peterson. For over 27 years she worked as the nursing supervisor at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center retiring in 1977. She was a member of the RN Club, a Rice Hospice volunteer and in 1982, received the Kandiyohi County Outstanding Citizen Award.
She is survived by four sons, Richard (and Leah) Peterson of Stillwater, Todd (and Cheryl Temple) Peterson of Mankato, Gene (and Susan) Peterson of White Bear Lake, Forrest (and Marilyn Sjotvedt) of Willmar, 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Edith Kandler of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Barbara Vincent of West Hartford, Connecticut, besides other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Richard in 1962) and a brother (Craig Fossum).
