Dorothy E. Wallert, 89, of Blomkest, died Wednesday afternoon, March 28, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, April 2nd, at the Blomkest Baptist Church in Blomkest. Memorials are preferred to missions of donor's choice. The interment will be in the church cemetery and Military Honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Sunday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Dorothy Elaine (Johnson) Wallert was born on November 7, 1922 on the family farm in Fahlun Township, near Blomkest, Minnesota, the daughter of Ellen (Lundgren) and Albert J. Johnson. She grew up in that community, received her education and graduated from Willmar High School in 1941. She continued her education at the Normal School in Litchfield. Dorothy taught school in the rural Raymond area until she entered the Navy in 1945. She served in the Navy Hospital Corps until 1947 and was discharged as a Pharmacist Mate 2nd Class. After her discharge Dorothy returned to the Blomkest area. She went to work for Norling Silo Company as Sec./Bookkeeper and worked there until her retirement. Dorothy also worked for many years with Evy (Erickson) Paulson in a catering business in the area. On March 21, 1970, she married Gordon August Wallert at the Blomkest Baptist Church. They made their home near Danube before moving to Blomkest. She was a life member of the church and served as a member of the Ladies Guild, Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and quilting group. Dorothy was also a member of the Idle 20 Birthday Club and a Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon of Willmar, one brother; Randolph (and Patricia Nelson) Johnson of Spicer, two sisters; Virginia (and Lennard) Erickson of Willmar and LaRose McLeod of Seattle, Washington, several nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Ellsworth and James Wallace "Wally" Johnson.
