Douglas J. Mead, age 57, of New London, died unexpectedly Monday morning, June 1, at his home in New London.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Douglas Jerome Mead was born on January 10, 1958, in Paynesville, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Shirley (Masters) Mead. He grew up in Spicer and graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1977. Doug began working for Menards right after high school and continued his employment there until 2002. In 1979, Doug was married to Carol Weflen. They raised their family in Willmar before moving back to the New London area in 1989 and later divorced. Since 2002, Doug has been employed with Perkins Lumber in Spicer as a shipping and receiving coordinator. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Doug's hobbies included hunting, fishing, spending time with his dog Maggie and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Mead (and special friend, Sheila Swanson) of St. Cloud and Corey (and Brook) Mead of Atwater; four grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Morgan, Krislina and Esmae Mead; his parents of Spicer and two sisters, Cheryl (and Steven) Nordby of New London and Janet (and David) Warmack of Spicer, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
