Douglass Baker

Douglass A. Baker, age 52, of rural Sunburg, died Sunday morning, April 1, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck following an extended illness.


A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.


Douglass Allen Baker was born on April 10, 1965, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Duane John and Mary Jane (Benjaminson) Baker. He grew up on the family farm near Terrace, was baptized and confirmed at Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church and graduated from Brooten High School in 1983. Douglass was self-employed as a carpenter. From previous marriages, Douglass was blessed with three children, Joshua, Mindi and Melisa. In 2002, he was married to Tammy Van Den Berge and they were blessed with one son, Cole. For the past seven years, Douglass had a special relationship with Sandy Besemann. He enjoyed riding dirt bike and 4-wheeler, camping, fishing, working on cars, fixing anything that was broken and watching Cole's athletic events and activities.


He is survived by his special friend, Sandy; four children, Joshua Baker of Lino Lakes, Mindi Baker of Fargo, ND., Melisa Baker of Thief River Falls and Cole Baker of Glenwood; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving is his mother, Mary Jane Baker of Glenwood and four siblings, Darryl (and Terri) Baker of Glenwood, Dawn Berdeken of Glenwood, Daniel (and Amanda) Baker of Brooten and Duane Baker Jr. of Glenwood, besides other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Duane in October of 2016.
