Duane Royce Day, age 63, of rural New London, died Tuesday, April 28, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at the church and will continue for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Duane Royce Day was born on July 14, 1951, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Royce and Adrian (Henke) Day. He grew up in the Raymond community and graduated from Raymond High School in 1969. Duane attended the University of Minnesota School of Architecture and received his bachelor's degree in 1974. In 1973, Duane was married to Patricia Maiers. They lived in several Minnesota communities before settling in rural Atwater in 1978. Duane was employed with several architectural firms in the Willmar and St. Cloud areas over the course of his successful career. He also owned and operated Reflections Architectural Studio in Willmar for a time in the 1980's. On August 5, 1989, Duane was married to Michelle Then, whom he adored. They lived in Willmar and later moved to the shores of Long Lake near Hawick where they designed and built their home. Duane was an active member of the Church of Our Lady of the Lakes, in Spicer, and served on several committees. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, camping and tending to his small vineyard and garden. Duane cherished the time spent with his family and his life with Michelle.
He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle of rural New London; two sons, Eric (and Sommer) Day of Litchfield, Christopher Day (and partner, Dan Zwick) of Sauk Rapids, and two grandchildren, Spencer and Bailey Day. Also surviving is his mother, Adrian Day of Willmar; two brothers, David (and Cecile Le Tourneau) Day of Raymond and Dean Day of Belview; and two sisters, Nancy (and Dennis) Endres of Raymond and April (and Christopher) Eisenberg of Champlin, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Royce in February of 2014.
