Edith L. Hanson, age 84, of Willmar, died Friday evening, July 24, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Edith was born July 10, 1925, in Willmar, to Egbert and Ellen (Soldahl) Knutson. She grew up and received her education in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High School in 1943. Following high school, she cared for her mother until her death. Edith married Ben Hanson and they made their home in Willmar. Edith worked in the laundry service at Bethesda Homes for 30 years. She also volunteered as a caretaker for Vikor Lutheran Church on Solomon Lake for many years. She also lived a short time with her nephew, Douglas in Pierre, South Dakota, before moving to Bethesda Heritage Center in 2004.
Edith was a caring and giving person. Her family, friends and her faith were always the most important things in her life. She enjoyed embroidery, needlework, sewing, reading and cross-word puzzles. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, watching Twins baseball games on TV and attending her nephew's ball games. While in Pierre she loved to take walks by the river, attended luncheons with the Senior Citizens Group, shopping, enjoyed her Dairy Queen ice cream and spending time with the family.
Edith is survived by her nephew, Douglas Knutson and wife, Pamela Knutson of Pierre, South Dakota, great-nephew Ryan Knutson of Pierre, SD, great-niece Mikaela Knutson and fiance Dan Sherven of Mt, Horeb, WI, and great-niece Shannon Hadac and husband Jim Hadac with daughters, Cari, Ellie and Madilyn of Mt. Horeb, WI , other relatives, numerous friends and the 3rd floor staff at Bethesda.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben Hanson; a brother: Gordon Knutson; a sister: Esther; a niece: Betty Arvidson; and two nephews: Charles Knutson and Robert Knutson.
