Edna Messenbrink

Edna H. Messenbrink, age 92, of Atwater, died Tuesday morning, June 20, at the Infinia Health Care Center in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23 at the United Methodist Church in Atwater with Rev. Robert Kandles and Rev. Becky Jo Thilges officiating. Interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edna H. Messenbrink was born on December 4, 1913, in Jeffers, Minnesota, the daughter of Emma (Tuttle) and John Knott. She grew up in the Jeffers community, was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith and received her education there. On May 7, 1932, she married Julius H. Messenbrink in South Dakota. They lived in Jeffers and later in San Francisco, California. In 1945, they moved to a farm near Willmar and in 1951, they moved to a farm near Grove City. In 1967, they moved to Atwater and Edna was employed by Jennie-O Foods for 10 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Atwater, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the church women's group.

She is survived by two sons, Charles (and Franziska) Messenbrink of Atwater and Richard (and Maggie) Messenbrink of Meadowlands, MN; a daughter, Albertha (and Marvin) Sackett of Atwater; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a number of great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Rhoda Barker of Atwater; two daughters-in-law, Ardelle Messenbrink of Princeton and Evelyn Messenbrink of Willmar and many nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julius in 1998 and two sons, Lewis and Julius, Jr.
