Edward Jansen

Edward G. Jansen, age 84, of Atwater, died Thursday morning, January 3, at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 24, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home in Atwater and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edward Gerrit Jansen was born February 7, 1928, in Padua, Minnesota, to Gerrit and Wilhelmina (Skalhaus) Jansen. He was one of eight boys and seven girls. Ed married Gloria Levin at the Atwater Methodist Church on December 10, 1960. For the first few years of their marriage they lived in the Twin Cities and then moved back to Atwater. Ed worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in Willmar for 30 years before retiring. Once retired, he and Gloria spent their winters in Arizona near Apache Junction. Ed considered himself fortunate to be able to spent 19 winters in sunny Arizona. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, listening to live music and spending time with his immediate and extended family.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kelly (and Jason) Wright of Cosmos and Karin (and Steve) Renier of Golden Valley; five grandchildren, Danielle (and Roney) Martin, Rachel Wright, Becca Wright, Jacob Renier and Kaitlyn Renier; two great-grandchildren, Kadence Martin and Klay Martin; a brother, Ben Jansen of Cross Lake; two sisters, Minnie Payne of California and Johanna (and Cornie) Toering of Pipestone; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria; six brothers and five sisters.
