Eldon Mahn, age 86, of Atwater died Wednesday morning, December 30th, at the Sunnyview Care Center in Atwater.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 3, at St. John Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday, January 2, at the Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Eldon Edward Henry Mahn was born November 2, 1923, in Harrison Township, Kandiyohi County, to William and Selma (Risch) Mahn. He was baptized November 11, 1923 and confirmed May 28, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church rural Atwater. Eldon attended elementary school in Atwater.
Eldon married Elvera Marquardt of rural Watkins, MN on November 2, 1948 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. The couple farmed north of Atwater several years then moved to rural Spicer farming there for 34 years. In October 1986, they moved into Atwater where he resided until moving to Sunnyview Assisted Living in September 2009. Four children were born to this union.
Eldon was an avid farmer all his life and a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Atwater. He served 12 years on the church board as trustee and was an usher for 45 years. Before his marriage he was a member of the Walther League Society. He and Elvera spent a couple months each winter for many years in Phoenix, Arizona enjoying the warm climate and visiting their family who lives there.
He is survived by three sons: Elroy (and Sheri) of Phoenix, AZ, Elgene of Atwater, Elbert (and Roberta) of Spicer; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother: Marvin (and Myrtle) of Atwater; sister-in-law: Gloria Mahn of Atwater and son-in-law: Daniel Mattheisen of New Hope.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2008, daughter: Eloise Mattheisen, in 2009; one brother: Harold, in 1999, and daughter-in-law: Lucinda "Cindy" Mahn in 1991.
