Eleanor Marcus, age 82, of Willmar, died Monday morning, December 12, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 19, at Rock of Life Christian Reformed Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, December 18, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Eleanor Ann Marcus was born August 26, 1934, in Rhiederland Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ed and Amelia (Lundquist) Ulferts. She was baptized at Bunde Christian Reformed Church and grew up near Roseland. She made a Profession of Faith where she committed her life to Christ at the Roseland Reformed Church. On April 17, 1953, she married Francis H. Marcus at Roseland Reformed Church and they made their home in Roseland. They moved to Willmar in 1955.
Eleanor worked in inventory at Dean Jones, as the bookkeeper for their rental properties, and was an Avon lady. She also worked in catering for Randy's Deli and Catering and Juba's. She had an incredible work ethic and helped out wherever needed. She volunteered at the Christian Rest Home, with Meals-On-Wheels, and at the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store.
She was a member of Rock of Life Christian Reformed Church and was active with Senior Bible Study. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, spending summers on Lake Florida, and connecting with family and friends. Eleanor also enjoyed traveling, especially their annual trip to Duluth, their trip to Springfield, IL, and their trip out west to Yellowstone.
Eleanor is survived by her three daughters, Marie Larson of Rochester, Darla Marcus of Willmar, and Michele (and Ron) Schroder of Sheboygan, WI; five grandchildren, Randy (and Amanda) Kamstra, Jenn Sietsema, Aaron Schroder, Ben Schroder (and fiancé, Molly), and Kristen Schroder; a great-grandchild due in February; two brothers, Mike (and Janice) Ulferts, and Darrel (and Shirley) Ulferts; three sisters, Darlene (and Marvin) Koch, Loretta Sandberg, and Karen (and Gerry) Stiemsma; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis in 2008; a son-in-law, Terry Larson in 2000; and two sisters, Luella Carol Ulferts in infancy, and Linda Zahnow in 2006.
