Eleanora Mead

March 1, 1929 — August 19, 2014

Eleanora L. Mead, 85 of Olivia, formerly of Willmar, died Friday, August 19, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 25 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are being directed by Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.(www.petersonbrothers.com)
Eleanora Lois Mead was born on March 1, 1929, near Lake Lillian, Minnesota to Wilhelmina Margreta Elizabetha "Minnie" (Thode) and Fred John Meyer. She attended the local schools and moved to Willmar with her family in 1936. On August 20, 1947, she married Lester (Bud) Arthur Mead in Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Eleanora worked as a meat wrapper at several local grocery stores in Willmar.
Eleanora enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning, and baking. She delighted in spoiling her family and friends with her baked goods and was always eager to try a new recipe. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Canada, the Pacific Northwest, and Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. She also enjoyed card games, bingo and puzzles. She was an accomplished seamstress and fashioned Barbie dolls clothes, baby quilts, as well as cute outfits for her granddaughters and numerous alterations.
In 2012 Eleanora moved to assisted living in Olivia and later to the Golden Living Center there. While there she established many new friendships and added a spark of fun.
She is survived by two daughters, Jacquelyn (John) Ninefeldt of Barnum, MN and Cheryl (Dan) Rauenhorst of Olivia, MN. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jed (Mary Dahlgren) Ninefeldt, Jessica Ninefeldt, Krystal (Mitch) Van Heuveln and Kelsie (Ryan) Aeikens. Eleanora was devoted to her family but her great grandchildren Noah, Kollin, Myah and Keeghan were the apple of her eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester, son Jeffrey, and two brothers Raymond and Orville.
