Betty Bacon, age 86, of rural Pennock and formerly of Sunburg and Willmar, died Monday afternoon, April 12, at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 16, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, April 15, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Betty Bacon was born on January 27, 1924, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Grace (Foster) Winters. She grew up and received her education in Iowa. On September 8, 1951, she was married to Fredrick Bacon in Albert Lea and they made their home in Iowa. In the late 1950's, they moved to Willmar and owned and operated Bacon's Bar in downtown Willmar. In the 70's they divorced and then she was employed at Tom Thumb and was also a foster grandparent for many years. She enjoyed fishing, bird watching, being outdoors, and had a love for animals, especially her dogs, Snoopy and Pebbles.
She is survived by her two sons, Kerry (and Cindy) Bacon of Cambridge and David (and Stefanie) Bacon of Pennock; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harry, Lonnie and Buddy and two sisters, Marcie and Delores.
