Elizabeth Ann (Larson) Lackore was born in Red Wing, Minnesota, on October 23, 1934, the daughter of Mabel (Aadalen) and Victor Larson. She attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. On May 29, 1954, she was married to Leonard Kenneth Lackore in Red Wing and they made their home in Iowa City, Iowa. Because of Len's education and work they lived in Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Florida before settling in Willmar, Minnesota, in 1971. In retirement, they enjoyed spending winters in Tucson, Arizona.
Betts was a caring and giving person, with a love of life. She was involved in many different activities throughout her life, enjoying music, travel, learning, and helping others. She continued college classes over time, earning a degree in Elective Studies at St. Cloud State University in 1988. She appreciated the arts, attending concerts and plays and collecting paintings and other artwork. She enjoyed traveling with Len, sight-seeing while he attended conferences and later exploring other countries and cultures through the Elderhostel program.
Betts was a huge supporter of causes she believed in, first as a volunteer and later through her financial contributions. She was on the Barn Theatre Board, including serving as president at the time of transitioning from the barn building to the theater's current location. She also enjoyed acting in a number of plays. She served many years on the Rice Hospital Auxiliary and the Concert Series Board and served as president of both of those organizations. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Bethel Lutheran Church, the public school system, and many other organizations. Betts was an avid supporter of many area agencies such as Safe Avenues (Shelter House), Willmar Public Schools, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and others. She wrote many letters to the editor over the years, including two in the last month or so. We are sure she is thrilled that the school levy passed!
Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters: Judith (and Mark) Lackore Monroe of Newton, Iowa, and Ramona (and Ron Adkins) Lackore of Willmar. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Daniel, Aaron and Rachel Monroe and Miles and Shannon Adkins; and one brother: C.M. "Jim" (and Dolores) Larson of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2008, and one sister: Virginia "Ginger" Nelson.
