Elizabeth Tolberson

Elizabeth "Betty" Tolberson, age 91, of Atwater, died Thursday morning, July 20, at Bethesda Grand Senior Living in Willmar.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park in Willmar. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home in Atwater, www.petersonbrothers.com.

Elizabeth Ann Tolberson was born October 28, 1925, in Roseland, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Gesina (Vlaar) Schroer. She grew up in the Roseland community and graduated from Olivia High School in 1943. She married Ralph Doering and they lived in Olivia, Paynesville and Litchfield. Betty worked as a waitress at truck stops in Paynesville and Litchfield. Betty married Myron Forbes and they made their home in Atwater, where Betty worked for Presbyterian Family Foundation for 20 years. She later married Toby Tolberson. Betty recently moved to Bethesda Grand Senior Living in Willmar.

Betty was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. She volunteered at the Atwater Community Center and reading to kindergartners in the school. She was also a member of the Atwater Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing Bingo and Yahtzee. Betty was always on the go and enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by six children, Charles (and Karen) Doering of Hector, Larry (and Pat) Doering of Cottonwood, AZ, Daniel (and Sharon) Doering of Paynesville, Alice Houck of Atwater, Donna Doering of Sioux Falls, SD, and Michael (and Deb) Forbes of Richmond, VA; a daughter-in-law, Joan Doering of Buffalo Lake; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Doering; four grandchildren, Valerie, Jamie, Cindy and Tyler; and three brothers, Bertram, LeRoy, and Chester.
