Elroy Schliemann

Elroy Roger Schliemann, age 73, of rural Pennock, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 21, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Elroy Roger Schliemann was born on November 7, 1946, on the family farm near Appleton, Minnesota, the son of Adolph and Amanda (Wente) Schliemann.  He grew up and received his education in Appleton and then returned to work on the family farm.  On July 15, 1967, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson, Elroy was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Staton and they lived and farmed on the family homestead near Appleton.  In the late 1960’s, they moved to Benson and Elroy was employed in the electric motor repair business.  In 1979, they moved to the Willmar and in 2002 moved to a farm near Pennock.  Elroy was employed at Eid’s Refrigeration for over 18 years and later worked at Magnuson Sheet Metal, retiring in 2008.  He was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock.  Elroy’s hobbies and interests included working on cars, fishing, country music and keeping busy by being outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen; three children, Roger Schliemann of Kerkhoven, Rodney Schliemann of Marshall and Renae Schliemann of Paynesville; and six grandchildren, Devan, Hannah, Hailey, Hayden, Mary Ellen and Christion, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Hunter Schliemann and Logan Ellson; two brothers, Manville and Harry; and three sisters, Bernice, Deloris and Ardith.
