Elsie S. Thompson, age 85, of Hutchinson formerly of Spicer, died Monday afternoon, June 13, at the Hutchinson Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Elsie Sophia Thompson was born April 6, 1926, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Nels and Sarah (Oberg) Brandberg. She grew up and received her education in Minneapolis. On February 21, 1942, she married Myron E. Thompson in Abeline, Texas, where he was in the service. Following Myron's discharge, they purchased a farm on Bass Lake near Spicer, where they lived and farmed for many years. The farm house was the gathering place for many family gatherings. Elsie worked as a cook at the Willmar State Hospital and Green Lake Bible Camp. Following their retirement, they moved into Spicer. Myron passed away in December 2002. In June 2008, Elsie moved to Hutchinson.
Elsie was very giving of her time. She enjoyed flowers, sewing and dancing. She also was an excellent baker and Myron enjoyed delivering her baked goods to the neighbors.
She is survived by two sons: Gary (and Char) Thompson of Spicer and David (and Laurie) Thompson of Chandler, AZ; four daughters: Karen (and Dan) McKeon of Stewart, Diane (and Dale) Dwyer of Brainerd, Sheryl (and Larry) Stranberg of Atwater and Kathy Thompson of Hutchinson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Laverne Brandberg of Edina and Helen Brandberg of Arkansas; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myron; a granddaughter: Robin Bredeson; and two brothers: Fritz Brandberg and George Brandberg.
