Erma Elizabeth Elsie Miller, age 88, of Willmar and formerly of Atwater, died Friday morning, November 19, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Monday, November 22, at the Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Erma Elizabeth Elsie Miller was born on September 22, 1922, on the family farm in Green Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Steffensen) Knudsen. She grew up near Diamond Lake, was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, confirmed at Green Lake Lutheran Church and graduated from Atwater High School in 1941. On September 4, 1945, Erma was married to Newell A. Miller and they lived and farmed in the rural Atwater community. She was employed at Bethesda Homes and Presbyterian Family Foundation. Erma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday school teacher and in womens circle. She was also a member of the Block Nursing Program, Home Extension, 9 O' Clockers club and book club.
Erma was a devoted caregiver all through her husband's illness. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, sewing and being a homemaker. She also enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.
She is survived by her four children: Charles (and Nancy) Miller of Apple Valley, Carol Hanson of Rochester, Susan Johnson of Willmar and Diane (and David) Horsman of Lester Prairie; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Ramona Parron of Waconia, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Newell in 1999; four brothers, Eugene, Harlan, Kinsley and Gordon; one sister, Thoretta and a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy.
