Erma L. Valentine, age 89, of Willmar, died Thursday morning, October 19, at the Infinia Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 23, at the Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi with Rev. Duane Semmler officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Erma Lucille Valentine was born December 10, 1916, in Correctionville, Woodbury County, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Kate Bennett Elliott. In 1919, the family moved to the Willmar area, where she attended country school. Erma worked as a domestic for many families in the area. On September 28, 1938, she married Raymond H. Valentine at the Presbyterian Church in Kerkhoven. They lived and farmed in the rural DeGraff area until 1949, when they returned to the Willmar area. Erma later worked at Red's Cafe and Jennie-O Foods until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, crocheting and cooking.
She is survived by her four children: Shirley Clark of Kandiyohi, Virgil Valentine (and Dianna Prior) of Spicer, Gerold (and Diane) Valentine of Apple Valley and Norma (and Kenneth) Williams of Foley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother: LaVerne (and Hazel) Elliott of Willmar; three sisters: Opel Pederson of Clara City, Ila Shosten of Detroit Lakes and Marilyn Wonderschied of California and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Raymond in 2000; a son-in-law: Walter Clark; three brothers: Donald, Dale and Darrell and a sister: Leona.
