Esther Borchert, 104, of Litchfield, died Tuesday, November 8, at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Grove City. Visitation will be 2-4 P.M. Sunday, November 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City and one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home (www.petersonbrothers.com).
Esther was born February 11, 1907 in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Lottie (Brown) Gish. In 1916, she moved with her family to northern Minnesota and attended school there through 8th grade. She then returned to Le Sueur County where she attended high school. On August 28, 1927, she married Fred A. Borchert in Federal Dam, Minnesota. They lived in Federal Dam until 1949, when they moved to Meeker County and farmed north of Grove City. Esther moved to Grove City Community Homes in 1980 and to the Lincoln Apartments in Litchfield in May 1997. She had resided at Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield since 2007.
Esther was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1949 and was active in the church circles. She was also a member of the Sunshine Club. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, baking, cooking and canning. She also made a wonderful choke cherry wine.
Esther is survived by three sons: Floyd Borchert of Walker, Fred H. Borchert of Grove City and Wesley Borchert of Pine River; two daughters: Frances Johnson of Litchfield and Margie (and Charles) Conway of Missoula, MT; two sisters: Joyce Flanningan of Florida and Mary Mino of Colorado; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Fred in 1964; a daughter: Florence Riebe; three brothers: Thomas, Leonard and Wesley; and three sisters: Mabel, Minnie and Nellie.
