Eugene A. Hammack, age 85, of Willmar and formerly of Spicer, died Thursday morning, Nov. 6, at the Willmar Commons Care Center.
There will be a memorial service held at a later date in the St. Louis, Missouri. Local arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Eugene Albert Hammack was born on May 15, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Lillie Belle (Stotler) and Edward James Hammack. He grew up and received his education in the St. Louis area. Eugene was married to Hazel Jakubiak and they made their home in the St. Louis area. Eugene worked for Sears as a manager for 30 years. Hazel died December 13, 1987 after 40 years of marriage. He wintered in Alamo, Texas, where he met and married Elizabeth "Betty" Georgina (Davis) Midby on April 16, 1993 at the Chapel by the Sea. They have made their home in the Willmar area for 6 months of the year and 6 months in Alamo, Texas area. Eugene enjoyed painting on tee shirts, pottery, lapidary, gardening, macrame, crocheting, canning and was an excellent cook.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Midby of Willmar, one son, David Hammack of Camdenton, Missouri, three stepsons; Charles Midby of Spicer, Alan (and Yolanda) Midby of Spicer and Terry (and Linda) Midby of Carmichael, California and one stepdaughter, Shirley (Arlo) King of Cypress, California. Also surviving are two grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, eleven step-great grandchildren and one sister, Betty Jan Bequette of California, besides other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, first wife (Hazel) and seven siblings.
