Eugene Larson, 86, of Atwater, died peacefully on Friday morning, January 4, at home in his wife's arms.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, at Rosendale Methodist Church in rural Atwater. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 7, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please provide donations to the Humane Society of Kandiyohi County on his behalf.
Eugene Elroy Larson was born April 30, 1926 in Litchfield, MN. He grew up on the family farm south of Atwater where he remained until his death. He served in the U.S. Army. He met his wife, Betty Lewerenz, at Big Kandi Lake Arena rollerskating. They later married on April 7, 1950 in Atwater. Eugene milked cows until 1991 and was active in farming until his death. He had a love of family and animals. He was a man of few words who was extremely gentle and kind.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Betty; and his two children, Larry (and Kay) Larson and Linda (and Dean) Summerlet, all of Atwater. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Melissa (and Jacob) Houston of Franklin, TN, Nathan Summerlet of Buffalo Lake, Hayley (and Rob) Kruger of Franklin, WI and Brandon Larson of Atwater; four great-grandsons, Lucas and Cooper Houston, Trent and Rylan Summerlet; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Kruger; a sister, Byrnice Peterson of Buffalo Lake; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Duane Larson.
