Evangeline Schwartz, 86, of New London, died Tuesday evening, November 12, at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, November 16, at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Evangeline Booth Schwartz was born May 26, 1927, to Jerrie and Lula (Dilley) Bidwell, at her parents' home on Long Lake in New London Township, Minnesota. She was raised on a farm on Shoemaker Lake, attended school at District 6, and attended the Presbyterian Church of New London. She was baptized a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Spicer on December 8, 1946.
On May 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Erwin Kloster in Spicer. They made their home in Spicer and Kerkhoven, Minnesota. This union was blessed with one son (died in infancy) and four daughters. She was active in the Spicer Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at the Spicer Cafe, Mel's Curb Service, and over 30 years working with turkeys on a turkey farm and at Jennie-O Turkey Plant. Her children remember their mother as being patient and kind, always putting her family first. She enjoyed poem writing, fishing, card playing, dancing, quilting, league bowling, and gardening with her family.
Erwin passed away May 6, 1982, in Willmar, Minnesota. On June 27, 1987, in New London, Evangeline was united in marriage to Otis Schwartz, a farmer from Kenmare, North Dakota. They made their home in several places in Minnesota and North Dakota. Otis passed away March 31, 2013, at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, North Dakota.
Survivors include her daughters: Donna (John) Moon of Kalispell, MT, Emily (Ken) Rand of Green Isle, MN, Judy Tebben of Hastings, MN, and Sally Manson of West St. Paul, MN; 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; step-children: Joan Burnside of Minot, ND, Susan (Dennis) Tando of West Richland, WA, and John Schwartz of Kenmare, ND; and 7 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters: Violet (Earl) Manson of New London, MN; Celia (Walter) DeGroot of Little Falls, MN; and sister-in-law, Rita Bidwell of Spicer, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews..
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Erwin Kloster and Otis Schwartz; infant son: Arnold; infant grandson: Baby Moon; 4 brothers: George, Arnold, Milfred, and Henry; and 4 sisters: Caroline Harris, Rosie Macrodantin, Coral "Lillian" Turbett, and Isabel "Mickey" Monson.
