Evelyn M. Dawson, age 92, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, July 3, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 8, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be from 4:30 - 7:00 PM with Daughter of Isabella Rosary at 4:30 PM and Parish Prayers at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 7, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall or the Church of St. Mary in Willmar are preferred.
Evelyn Mary Dawson was born on September 12, 1918, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Bunn) Stromenger. She grew up in Montevideo, was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1935. On December 29, 1936, in Montevideo, Evelyn was united in marriage to Clyde W. Dawson. They lived and farmed in the Montevideo area for 5 years. In 1945, they moved to Willmar. Evelyn was employed part-time at J.C. Penny Co., Habichts and Quality Fabric. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary and was active with the Daughter of Isabella, Altar and Rosary Society and the Renewal Group. In her younger years, Evelyn and Clyde enjoyed spending many winters in Texas. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, news and current events, traveling throughout the United States and spending time with her family. Since November of 2009, Evelyn has resided in Marshall.
She is survived by five daughters, Lynn (Neil) Adams, Georgetown, TX; Ginny (Dan) Untiedt, Albertville, MN; Barb Peterson, Pelican Rapids, MN; Joan Sargent, Duluth, MN; Julie (John) Allen, Marshall, MN; two sons, Dennis (Barb) Dawson, Spicer, MN; Brad (Becky) Dawson, Burtrum, MN; two sons-in-law, Ron Altany, Natrona Heights, PA; and Todd Hillstrom, Dawson, MN; 23 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Verdi Gilbertson, Montevideo, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde in 2005; three daughters, Marilyn Altany in 2002, Debbie Dawson in 1998, and Mary Hillstrom in 1996; two great grandchildren, Eva and Jesse Hammond; two sisters, Clara Sunderland and Agnes Gilbertson; two brothers, Earl and Alfred Stromenger; and two sons-in-law, Al Davis and Willie Peterson.
Evelyn's family extends a special thank you to all the caregivers at Prairie Home Hospice and her dear friends, Mary Jacobs and Kathy Eveslage of Marshall for the excellent level of Compassionate care given to Evelyn during her final months.
