Evelyn L. Carlson, age 94, of Willmar, formerly of the New London area, died Friday morning, June 13, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the United Methodist Church in Willmar. A private interment will be at Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in Kandiyohi. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, MN.
Evelyn was born on November 26, 1919, in New London, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Jensen) Andreen. She grew up and attended school in the New London community. She worked at Frank's Cafe in Spicer, where she met Oscar Carlson and they were married in October 1939. Oscar was a jeweler and they operated a jewelry store in New London. They raised two children, Clarence and Ardys. Evelyn also did day care in her home and cooked at Glen Oaks Care Center. In 1978, Evelyn moved to Willmar and worked as a home health aide for Kandiyohi County.
Besides cooking and homemaking, Evelyn enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, plastic canvas, many craft projects and word games. She had a great love for her family and friends and God gave her a good life.
She is survived by her children, Clarence (and Caren) Carlson of Ault, CO and Ardys Carlson of New London; three grandchildren, Jodi Shumaker, Jamey Carlson and Jennifer (and LeRoy) Diehl; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Clifford Andreen of Willmar, Oscar Andreen of Milpitas, CA, Ronald (and Ione) Andreen of Willmar, David (and Charlotte) Andreen of Kasson, and Paul (and Carol) Andreen of Spicer; a sister, Florence Prosser of St. Paul; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar in 1972; four brothers, Ludvig, Peter, James and Donald; and two sisters, Bertha Andreen and Adeline Thompson.
