Eva was born on February 15, 1911, in Reno, Minnesota, to Charles and Grace (Monti) Greener. She grew up in Reno and as a teenager moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She married Herbert Lukas, Sr. on June 9, 1934, at St. James Catholic Church in LaCrosse. Herbert preceded her in death on August 5, 1953. She worked at St. Thomas More Catholic School and Holy Cross Seminary, Charlotte's Bridals and Margi's Bridal Shop in LaCrosse before moving to Willmar in 1973.
She was a member of the Church of St Mary in Willmar and volunteered for many years on the funeral committee. She also loved to bake cookies for the residents at Bethesda Heritage Center where she was known as "the cookie lady."
Eva loved her family, homemaking, music, baking, and caring for others. Her strong Catholic faith brought her comfort and peace through many difficult times. As a child, she took both piano and voice lessons and in later years it was a Sunday afternoon ritual for her to entertain her family on the piano. Eva enjoyed many happy days at Nest Lake, watching the squirrels, chipmunks and activities on the lake. In the fall of the year, she especially enjoyed drives through Sibley State Park to look for deer. Although she spent many years in Willmar, she always missed the hills of the Minnesota-Wisconsin river valley in LaCrosse.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (and Ronald) Sackmaster of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Mariette (and Dean) Lovold of Spicer, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Muller of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Lukas, Sr.; a son, Herbert Lukas, Jr. and his wife, Eileen; a son, David Lukas and his wife, Jane; two brothers, Clyde Greener and Glenn Patrick Greener; and four sisters, Guilia McDonald, Kathleen Naegle, Geraldine Newhouse and Virginia Beissel.
