Evelyn C. Wiedeman, age 80, of New London, died Wednesday afternoon, June 10th, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
There will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are with the Green Lake Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Spicer.
Evelyn Catherine Wiedeman was born on September 10, 1928, in Decatur, Iowa, the daughter of Dora (Benner) and Max Fillebeck. She grew up in Decatur and received her early education there. She moved with her family to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she graduated form Thomas Jefferson High School and met her high school sweet heart, Robert Lee Wiedeman. She attended the local community college and took classed in nursing. On June 20, 1948, she was married to Robert Wiedeman in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and they made their home there. In 1960, they moved to New London and owned and operated Little Crow Sports Center in Spicer for 45 years. She went to work as cook at the New London/Spicer High School in about 1971 and cooked for the school for about 10 years. She was widely known for her cinnamon rolls that she baked from scratch for breakfast at the school and also for her mac and cheese. Her family and friends were her passion and she was an avid quilter, giving many quilts to family and friends. She also enjoyed needlework and passed these skills to her children and grandchildren. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, each winter she traveled to be with her girls and grandchildren in Colorado.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Wiedeman of New London, one son, Gary Wiedeman of Spicer and two daughters, Sherry McKinney of Arvada, Colorado and Karen Wilson of Westminster, Colorado. Also surviving are five grandchildren, one brother, Frank (and Joann) Fillebeck of Council Bluffs, Iowa and two sisters, Doris "Bibs" Peterson of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Dee (and Rudy) Riefler of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, beside other relatives and friends.
