Florence Brouwer, age 89, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, October 8, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with Rev. Pablo Obregon officiating. Interment with be in the Bethany Christian Reformed Cemetery in Brooten. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Florence Brouwer was born September 4, 1917, in Richardson, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas K. and Alma (Johnson) Hansen. She grew up in the rural Crookston area. Florence attended rural Crookston schools and later attended high school in Hillsboro, North Dakota, graduating in 1937. She worked a short time as a home health aide in Oregon. On September 25, 1939, she married Theodore "Ted" Brouwer in Crookston. They lived and farmed in the Crookston area and later lived in Luverne, Brooten, Roseland and Prinsburg. They moved to Willmar in 1980. In 1990, they moved to Annandale and in 2002 to Milaca. In May 2005, Florence returned to Willmar and resided at Bethesda Pleasantview. She was a former member of the Brooten Christian Reformed Church, Roseland Reformed Church and First Reformed Church in Willmar. Florence enjoyed sewing, crafts and growing flowers. She will be remembered for her "famous" apple pie.
She is survived by a daughter, Arlet (and Harry) Roelofs of Willmar; three sons, Ronald (and Sharon) Brouwer of South Haven, Larry (and Pat) Brouwer of Kandiyohi and Paul (and Ellie) Brouwer of St. Cloud; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted in 2004; a son, Richard in 2003; a brother, Arnold Hansen and a sister, Ruth Broman.
