Floyd Boeder

Floyd V. Boeder, age 82, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, March 2, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, March 8, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia, MN. The interment will be in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Gibbon, MN. Military Honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Friday, March 7, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the services at the church . (www.petersonbrothers.com)
Floyd Victor Boeder was born January 7, 1932 in Moltke Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, near Gibbon, the first child born to Victor Carl and Myrtle Martha (Schultz) Boeder.. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school, and later graduated from Gibbon High School in 1949. After high school, he worked on the family farm. He served his country from 1952 to 1954 in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Floyd returned to Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with distinction in March 1959. He also continued with graduate classes at the University for a time. He worked as a Right-of-way Agent with the Minnesota Department of Highways in St. Paul before starting his teaching career. He taught Agriculture and Farm Management in high school and vo-techs in Minnesota. On September 9, 1961, he married Marlys JoAnn Bauerkemper at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie, Wisconsin. They were blessed with three children. In 1969, they moved to Willmar, where Floyd was the Farm Management Instructor at the Willmar Tech College, now Ridgewater College. Floyd retired in 1993 after 30 years of teaching. He also had a tax service for area farmers that he ran with his wife.
Floyd was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia and in the past years served as a Sunday School teacher, and on the church council and many committees. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, MVAIA Teachers Association, West Central Ag Sales, Republican Party, Rice Cardiac Rehab, a past election judge, and a 55 Alive AARP instructor. He also enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, lawn work, reading, and polka music He cherished his family time, camping and traveling with them. He loved his time spent with his granddaughter Libby. Floyd had a special bond with his beagle, "Snickers". The family remembers celebrating Father's Day with their Dad grilling those special pork chops.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marlys of Willmar; one son, Steven Boeder of Brooklyn Park; and one daughter, Julie (and Steve) Pfannenstein of St. Cloud. Also surviving are one granddaughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Pfannenstein; one brother, Curtis Boeder of Arlington; and two sisters, LaVonne Boyum of New Ulm and Barbara Nicolaus of New Ulm, besides other relatives and friends.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey; brother, Dick Boeder; son-in-law, John Barber; and special aunt and uncle, John and Goldie Busta.
