Floyd Rambow

Floyd Rambow, age 91, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, July 10, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 12,  at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar.  Interment will be at Salem Covenant Cemetery near Pennock.  Military Honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Floyd Wallace Rambow was born on March 2, 1928 at home in Raymond, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Charles and Bertha (Rusten) Rambow. He was baptized May 19, 1928 at the Raymond Methodist Church by Reverend S.L. Hart.  Growing up he would spend extended periods of time with his grandparents Julius and Emma Rambow. He was confirmed at the Raymond Methodist Church and graduated from Raymond High School May 31, 1945.

Following high school, he farmed with his father. He was inducted into the Army on November 24, 1950.  0n November 16, 1951 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on August 27, 1952.

Following his return home, he farmed with his brother Glen. He enjoyed playing baseball and being involved in Rural Youth.  Through Rural Youth he met Lillian Noland. 0n September 24, 1955 they were wed in Salem Covenant Church. They made their home on a farm in rural Raymond, continuing to farm until 1965. At that time they moved to Willmar. He worked at the Post 0ffice until his retirement in the early 1990`s. He also drove for the Willmar Bus Company from 1972 to 2006. It was something he really enjoyed doing.

Floyd and Lillian were married for 40 years raising their three children. Lillian passed away shortly after their 40th anniversary.

0n June 14, 1997 Floyd wed Mary Newberg at Roseville Lutheran Church. They made their home in Willmar. They were married for 17 years until Mary passed in May 2014.

During Floyd`s adult years he was an active member of the First Covenant Church in Willmar. He was an usher, a member of the church`s bowling team, helped collect Sunday School offerings, mowed the church lawn, and drove the church bus on Sunday mornings. He was avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and his favorite time of year-Deer Hunting Season!

He enjoyed the restoration process of his 1930 Ford Model A that he had purchased after he returned from Korea. He and Mary traveled around Minnesota entering the car in car shows and driving it in parades.

Floyd is survived by three children: Brenda (Daniel) Wiles of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Tamara (Dale) Neal of Murdock, MN, and Chad (Lisa) Rambow of Crystal, MN. Also two step daughters: Joan (Dale) Freeberg of Maple Grove, MN and Beth (Scott) Freberg of Vadnais Heights, MN; nine grandchildren, Jonathan (Konnie) Wiles, Theodore (Kerry) Wiles, Brendan Wiles (and special friend Meagan Flacy), Melinda Wiles, Stephanie (Kyle) Sunde, Kelsi (Danny) Delbosque, Taylor Neal, Devin Rambow, and Nicole Rambow; seven great grandchildren, Madison & Austin Wiles, Haylen, Lily, & Sawyer Sunde, and Charlie & Ellary Delbosque; siblings, Marion (Earl) Larson, Alan (Carol) Rambow, Mavis Hultgren, and Judy (Rollie) Boll; and sisters-in-law, Donna Dee Rambow and Signe Rambow; along with many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Lillian Noland Rambow and Mary Newberg Rambow; newborn son. Jeffrey Charles Rambow; parents, Charles and Bertha Rambow; and grandparents, Julius and Emma Rambow; brothers, Gerald Rambow and Glen Rambow; and brother-in-law, Donald Hultgren.
