Frances Asmus, age 85, of Willmar, died Monday, July 23, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice.
Frances Theresa Asmus was born December 4, 1932, in Farmington, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clemence and Rose (Neidermire) Garske. She grew up in Farmington and Osceola, Wisconsin before moving to New Richmond, Wisconsin in 5th grade. She graduated from New Richmond High School and Charles T. Miller School of Practical Nursing in St. Paul, specializing in surgery. Frances married Ordell Asmus on June 15, 1957 in Wisconsin. They lived in Jamestown, ND, Big Stone City, SD, and later Ortonville, MN, where Fran worked at the hospital. In 1994, they moved to Willmar and Fran worked at the Willmar Surgery Center for three years. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary, where she was active with the Daughters of Isabella and worked in the kitchen for church dinners and events for many years. Fran also volunteered at Rice Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed cooking sewing, knitting, and especially quiltinga�"each of Fran's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren received one of her handmade quilts. She also cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren and their families.
She is survived by six children; Rachelle (and Robert) Somerville of Willmar, Brian (and Julie) Asmus of Willmar, Keith (and Chris) Asmus of Little Falls, Lorri (and Ronald) Kotzenmacher of Willmar, Ronald Asmus of Willmar, and Darwin Asmus of Ortonville; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters: Regina Quist of Osceola, WI, Donna Bauer of St. Paul, Helen Riley of Joplin, MO, Ann (and Jack) Scobey of Hudson, WI, Rosie (and David) Carlson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Christy (and Charles) Krueger of Hatley, WI; a sister-in-law: Joan Garske of New Richmond, WI; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ordell in 2014; a son-in-law: Greg Antony; brothers: Ambrose (and Mary Lou) Garske, Kenneth (and Sue) Garske, and Raymond Garske; sisters: Marion (and Leo) Germaine and Eva (and Gene) Rice; and brothers-in-law: Laverne Quist, Valentine Bauer, and Terry Riley.
