George DeBoer

April 4, 1922 — December 4, 2012

George A. DeBoer, age 90, of Elk River, formerly of Eden Prairie and Willmar, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, at the University Of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.

Memorial service will be held at 2 P.M., Wednesday, December 12, at the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. (www.petersonbrothers.com)

George Authur DeBoer was born on April 4, 1922, in Lyon County, Iowa, the son of Alma DeBoer. George grew up and received his education in Iowa. He married Rita M. Terwey in 1942 and they were married for 43 years. He enlisted in the Army during WWII, fought in the Phillipines and Okinawa earning numerous medals. He lived in Hastings, NE. where he was the owner of DeBoer Piano Store. He was a gifted pianist playing for many churches and working in the retail music business throughout his lifetime. He had a music store in Willmar, MN for many years. In 1986, he married Darlene Mattson and they spent 25 years together; living in Kansas, then Eden Praire, MN until Darlene's death in 2010. In Eden Praire he taught Piano lessons for many years and touched the lives of many students and their families. He spent his last years in Elk River, MN, where he continued to entertain with his piano playing. He loved to go to the YMCA, and kept active and worked the Star Tribune crossword puzzle everyday of his life.
George is survived by his 3 children, Sheryl DeBoer of Springfield, MO, Mike (Jackie) DeBoer of Hastings, NE, Miriam (Grayle) Leech of Breezy Point, MN, 4 step-children, Jodi (Greg) Garrison of Willis Point, TX, Cindy (Doug) Gregersen of Big Lake, MN, Troy (Nancy) Mattson of Willmar, MN, Aaron (Richelle) of Wichita, KS, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his 2 sisters, Julieanne Baugness from McKinleyville,CA, and Helen (Frank) D'Ambrosia,Walkersville, MD. He is preceded in death by his infant son, mother Alma, his father, his brother Harry, his 1st wife Rita, and 2nd wife Darlene.
