George E. Hulstrand, age 94, of Willmar, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 19, at Rice Therapy Suites in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 22, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials in lieu of flowers to Gustavus Adolphus College, Ridgewater College Foundation or Willmar Music Matters (www.mngivemn.org) are preferred.
George was born in Leon Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota on August 3, 1918 to John George Hulstrand and Alice Hulstrand Holm. His native language was Swedish until he started school. He finished high school by correspondence school as other options were not available. He subsequently graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College Magnus Cum Laude in 1943 and earned his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1946.
George married Mabel Ericson in New Haven on September 7, 1946. They moved to Willmar later that year when he joined the law practice of Roy Hendrickson. George continued to practice law in Willmar until 2010.
George was active in the Willmar Noon Lions, Willmar Jaycees, Kandiyohi County DLF, Willmar Planning Commission and the development of the Willmar College Foundation, as well as a number of other community groups.
George and Mabel were blessed by four children; George Jr of Willmar, Brian (now deceased) and his wife Elaine of Willmar, Darlene and David Schroeder of Pennock and Jeanne and Jon Berget of Woodbury.
George is survived by seven grandchildren.
